bleed with a smile

dear guitardos,

steph & jared finished their blair witch version of "mig" last night at longcomings aerie. if there was a video for this song, steph would be in a forest at night in red pagan robes singing whilst holding a lantern & walking slowly towards the camera barefoot. in the background, there is a man in a full bear costume (jared) playing the banjo intensely against the backdrop of the full moon. too bad I don't have a multi-million dollar budget for this thing because not only would I make the video but I would also do something I'm usually deeply, violently opposed to in rock music. I'd add a flute to it. & possibly some tubular bells. I'm not kidding. it has a certain wicker man/omen type thing I'd like to exploit. what's britt eckland doing these days?

jeremiah has sent me his preliminary version of "better" which sounds like a disco in 1980's transylvannia. all dry ice & colored lights & tired women with heavy accents looking for lonely tourists. in other words, an excellent addition to our unorthodox tribute.

saturday is plus ones recording day & I have faith that it will come together so that sunday's mixing can run smoothly. monday is the day I hope to decide track sequencing. after that is decided, I plan to be burning cd's until saturday. please try & get your copies, even if they are not the final versions, to me by monday so that I can start my work. the final versions MUST be in my hot sweaty little black paws by wednesday so I can BURN, BURN, BURN!

ALSO for the inner sleeve of b's copy of the cd (for obvious expense reasons, I cannot make a special cd insert for everyone):

1. if any of you have photos of yourselves slaving over these songs to include please pass those on to me via my aol email.

2. if it's not too much trouble, I thought it might be nice to include short descriptions of each band (personnel, etc..) with a brief explanation of the genesis of your particular interpretation. I'd prefer to get these descriptions directly from you. failing this, I can make one up for you, but I'm worried that my descriptions will consist of fabrications about who's really in your band, last name mis-spellings & invented reasons for why you interpreted b's song the way you did or why you chose your particular band name. most of you have a way with the written word, so I'd prefer your take on things.

3. I believe the estimable mary, queen of p-s will do some pro-type liner notes & I will provide some sort of grammatically incorrect & ranty intro as well.

4. heather k & her macaroni hair portrait of bryan should be getting to me at some point & I will crow about it soon enough. b'caw! meow! etc...

love, d
