I think they're groovy

dear folks,

another weekend closer to b's birthday. current updates are as follows:

1. met up with the dirty & worked some more on 36. listened to jobim. issues of syncopation led us to agree that it would be better if I waited until the vocal was recorded before he can add his bossa novian counterpoint. j came home. the two of them discussed "shadings" & possible addition of bongos. my cousin rossana is supplying me with a "guirro" & yes, I'm sure I have the spelling wrong. hopefully we can add that to the "percussive canopy" (my own utterly pretentious yet sincere way of putting it) of our version.

2. jared assures me that despite the fact that he & steph have not worked on mig, they shall. I tried to look stern. on the phone. using mind rays.

3. missive from mary (slightly altered to protect us from googlers), providing informative & exciting information on the m's progress----

"...here is a brief report from Team M. We had practice last night and in between cranking out some new hits and rehearsing the old ones, we began crafting what will become our interpretation of "Crawl." Two words: dance punk. Or, if you prefer: dance, punk. Apparently it was so powerful, Christina continued to play the cymbal intro even when we were supposed to be playing "Grape Juice Plus," and afterwards announced "I think I managed to channel a bit of Jeremiah there for a while." (It's true. She was doing the infamous "snare crouch" move.) Phil is cutting the length of the guitar solo but INCREASING THE EMOTION. I am alternating between playing the recognizable "Crawl" bass part and playing something completely different. It is going to be hottt. The best part was when Christina helped by singing the guitar part, drum part, and vocal part... all at once. With gestures. Everyone watch out."

I smell a dance off!

actually, that can be my birthday present. a giant dance-off between local bands. but I digress...

4. in further miss mary mac news, she has accepted the arduous task (which evaded the other boys of mostly mig - USELESS!) of lifting kill the messenger of off thurston so it can be handed off to kristie for deconstruction. yay for mps!

5. apparently, there will be a gig at luna on the day of b's birthday which means that the burden of surprise birthday party is lifted & now only the strain of secret release party is left. which is cake. (triple finger snap)

6. travis may still be ahead of everyone else.

love, d

I am very excited about the Marks doing up crawl. After practicing it last night, I will say that it is good. Very very good.

can't wait to hear it! I wish I had a real site so people could post teasers of their versions. I am truly intrigued by the possibilities. I do love covers.

his birthday/the luna show is on a thursday, right? so there's that whole weekend for secret releasing (umm, err)... I have been diligently leading him to believe that his b'day celebration will consist of grilled cheese before the show, then perhaps cupcakes at the show, or something. frankly I think he is excited enough about the grilled cheese that he won't be asking too many questions/making too many demands.

oh and also I think we should make sure to get amusing photos of people recording/rehearsing/whatevering their songs. for the cd sleeve/liner notes/album cover/whathaveyou.

guitarded photos I really want for the sleeve: the dirty looking thoughtful whilst playing the bongos next to some candles, george jezel with headphones on, holding his fist up to heaven, eyes closed, singing into a mic (i.e. really, really FEELING it), cheez in his beastmaster romance guise a la bobby digital, a faux promo pic for the plus ones in matching outfits, travis making the stinky face while holding up the cd, a picture of the big group sing which inexplicably includes some octogenarians bryan has never ever seen before...any others to add?

I really want hk to do the cover. what do I gotta do to her to make her give it up???

ps I think that the show + guitarded + grilled cheese/cupcakes will work amazingly well. too bad mig can't book who they're playing with there. the real bands could preview their versions...muhahaha.
